Bible reading is good. But Bible reading with an attitude of being willing to be corrected by God and willing to believe what He says is better. That is not an automatic thing. Too many people read the Bible interpreting everything according to their own opinions and traditions. As I point out in my blog, we need God's help to understand the Bible, and God gives that help to those who are willing to believe and strive to obey what He says, one point at a time.

I too struggle with my tones, when I speak to the children sometimes. I often need to remind myself to be kinder and gentler.
