Sunday Sermon-Street Corner Doxology 1 Peter 1:3-5

Exile IV Title: Street Corner Doxology Date: 3.2.14 Text: 1 Peter 1:3­5 

Main Idea: At the intersection of faith and hope comes worship.

Introduction:

Our text today leads us to a Street Corner Doxology. "A doxology is a hymn of praise. The word comes from the Greek doxa, which refers

to glory that is ascribed to God, because it belongs eternally and intrinsically to Him."

"All sound theology must begin and end with doxology." G.C. Berkouwer

READ 1 Peter 1:3a­b

1) God's mercy pursues us. (3a)

Romans 3:10­12, 23 as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Romans 9:16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

2) God's grace regenerates us.

3) God's Son redeems us. 1 Corinthians 15:3­42

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

Romans 10:9: ...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

4) God's plan assures us.

R.C. Sproul: "People today believe in the universal fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of man. In biblical categories God, naturally speaking, is the Father of One...Scripture tells us that by nature we are children of wrath...so we must never take for granted the privilege of speaking of God as "Father.""

Romans 8:16­17

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs­ heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

5) God's power guards us.

Revelation 21:1­6, 10­11, 22­27 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away." And he who

was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."And he said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. Next Steps:

I want to put my faith in Jesus as my Savior. I want to surrender to him and be saved from my sins. I want my hope to come alive. I want to transfer it from someone/something else to Jesus today.

This week my prayers are going to shift from asking things of God to praising God daily. I am going to respond by praying with others that I would move from another intersection to faith/hope.

I am going to pray for To Be The Church this week. I am going to fast for To Be The Church this week. I am going to give toward To Be The Church this month (March). I want to volunteer to help build for To Be The Church.

Saturated In The Light

True worship is in Spirit and Truth

Worship is an everyday thing…it is a life style

The way of saturation

A. Worshipping John 4:21-24

B. Abiding John 15:4-5

C. Fellowship 1 John 2:8-10

D. Serving John 13:12-17

The Effects:

A. Right Living

B. Joy

C. Peace

Personal Reflection:

To be saturated in the light I need all the ingredients.

I need to be

1) In My Bible

2) In Prayer

3) In Church

4) In Fellowship

5) Serving

These 5 ingredients will bring:

1. Right Conviction

Eph 5:15-18

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

God has a plan for each of us. We were created for a purpose in Him. We need to be wise, and seek out what the will of God is for our lives. Personally I ask God daily because I don't really know long term what his will is. However what really spoke to me is that God has a specific plan. He will use what we have been through, and even our mistakes if we allow him too. There were many trials in my life that I almost did not think I could bare! When I was in the mist of them the tunnel seemed so dark. I would have times where I would feel so alone and ashamed that these things were happening.

Is 64:8-9

But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

God will bring us to points in our lives to realize that without Him we can do nothing! He will break us, only to bring us out better then we started. In order for God to use us for his specific will, He must teach us. Much like a potter who has a lump of clay and molds that ugly lump of clay into a beautiful masterpiece.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

It is so difficult being humbled through those things. Life has many lessons and in those lessons we can not escape . Knowing that God is making and molding us for His perfect will gives me a peace that I will continue to fall, but as long as I seek God and try to obey His commandments He will guide and direct my life. He has the path already made out.....now it is up to me to live it. When I make mistakes God will allow a way for me to escape (if I seek His will not my own). He can even use those mistakes, even though it was NOT the perfect will of God, he can use them to help others.

Jeremiah 29:11-14

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
