Marriage: Practicing Bitterness?

Are you Practicing Bitterness?

Were you mad at your husband today over something he did? Did you seeth with bitterness and intentionally avoid looking into his eyes so as to express your distain? Does he now bend to your anger and do better in hopes of escaping your condemnation? He practices his faults, and you practice your bitterness. You are both practicing DIVORCE. Your children watch and are practicing being poor mothers and fathers.
~Created To Be His Help Meet By Debi Pearl

After reading this....I sat and cried today. How many times have I did this in my marriage. We need to be very careful to not fall in this trap.

Let us pray...
Father help us as wives sort out our emotions from the facts. Help us to react in the correct manner to our spouse. Please forgive me for being selfish and not having a clean heart that forgives more easily.
In Jesus Name
Amen

Anger- Quotes

As we go through 'The Love Dare' I thought these would be helpful.

“Speak when you are angry - and you'll make the best speech you'll ever regret.”
~Dr. Laurence J. Peter

“Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten.”

"Anger always comes from frustrated expectations”
~Elliott Larson

"Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame.”
Benjamin Franklin

Parenting~Unholy Anger Part 1

Let's take a look at Ephesians 6:4
(see also Genesis 18:19,and Deuteronomy 6:2)

This verse commands us to bring our children up in the training and instruction of the Lord. This is a simple principle that enables us to think clearly about our responsibility as parents. You as a parent are under the authority of the Lord. Your job as a parent is to point your children to the Lord. You and your children are in the same boat. Both parents and the child is under God's authority. You have different roles, but the same Master.

If we allow unholy anger to muddle the correction process, we are wrong. We need to ask for forgiveness. Our right to discipline our children is tied to what God has called us to do, not to our own agenda. Unholy anger~ anger over the fact that we are not getting what we want from our children.....will muddy the waters of discipline. What this does is it frames the discipline as a problem between the parent and the child, not as a problem between the child and God.
It is God who is not being obeyed when we are disobeyed. It is God who is not being honored when we are not honored. The issue is not an interpersonal contest, it is rather your insistence that your child obey God, because obeying Gos is good and right.

Question you can ask yourself....
What do you think is the nature of your authority as a parent? How does this square with a biblical view?

Stay tuned for part 2

The Root Of Anger

Angry behavior reveals our desire to govern our own lives on our own terms, rather than submit to God and live our lives on His terms. As its root, anger is a desire to exalt and worship self and is a refusal to yield to the authority and lordship of Christ.
